Halloween Movie Picks

This year Halloween might be a little less about going round the houses, and more about staying home but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. We’ve picked our top fright night movies to curl up on the sofa to, plus a few for the more faint-hearted (like us!).

Let’s start with the classic scary movies… although after this year they might need to try a little harder to shock us!

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.jpg

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

A halloween classic, the monstrous spirit of a slain child murderer seeks revenge by invading the dreams of teenagers whose parents were responsible for his untimely death. Lovely.

PSYCHO.jpg

Psycho (1960)

The original horror movie, a Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother. As you can probably imagine, it doesn’t go well for her in this terrifying Hitchcock thriller.

A QUIET PLACE.jpg

A Quiet Place (2018)

It’s all suspense in this far cry from the Devil Wears Prada (with its star-in-common Emily Blunt). In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing.

If that’s all a bit intense, chill out with one of these classics that will keep the last of your nerves intact.

THE CRAFT.jpg

The Craft (1996)

One for the 90s babies, The Craft was about the coolest witching movie around. A newcomer to a Catholic prep high school falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who anger them.

hocus-pocus-poster-jodi-puckett.jpg

Hocus Pocus (1993)

Before Carrie Bradshaw there was Hocus Pocus, but if you happened to be a pre-teen you were probably just there for Thackery Binx - the cat turned cute boy.

A curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.

CORPSE BRIDE.jpg

Corpse Bride (2005)

Halloween wouldn’t be complete without the power trio of Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. A feast for the eyes, this family movie tells the tale of a shy groom who practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, who then rises from the grave assuming he has married her.
